december daily.

Now that I’ve finally updated my blog… let’s move on to something new! Ah!

So, after two years of internal struggle, I’ve finally admitted to myself that no matter how good I get at making digital scrapbooking pages… I’m never really happy with them. I am thankful that my skills have grown. I am honored to be on the creative teams of my friends and a part of The Digi Dares. And there’s no way I’m giving up designing! I love designing. It’s a hobby all it’s own. But a big part of me has always known that I was never going to be happy with my work once I printed out. I just tried to ignore that voice for the last two years and see where it got me.

It got me nowhere. It left me feeling frustrated! I wasn’t making time for paper scrapping because I was trying so hard to love my digital work. I realized that was what wrong with me was that I missed paper scrapping—a lot!

So, we can blame Pinterest. Gosh, I love Pinterest! All the inspiration…

After a few months of roaming Pinterest, all the inspiration hit me over the head and said “WAKE UP! Go and get out the glue, scissors and paper!”

Last night I started on my December Daily album:

Oh my goodness. I could not be happier about how it turned out! I am thrilled.

The cover was heavily inspired by Christine Middlecamp. I love her work!

I titled my album “Christmas 2011” because I don’t think I’ll be very strict about scrapping a page a day—I really don’t want to do a “Day in the Life for 25 Days” kind of album. Rather, I’ve come up with a list of 25 things I want to capture and record this month. Things like the new ornaments I bought for this year. And my favorite old ornaments (and why). And our hot chocolate mugs. And the kids’ jammies. All those precious little things that make this time of year different.

I will probably photograph and fix up a page each day. But I’m not going to beat myself up if I’m not “on schedule.” I want to enjoy this mini album for goodness sake!

Here are the second and third pages, ready for some “smashing!”

I had ordered this BasicGrey pack of tags on clearance on 2peas. I had no idea what size it would be when it arrived. It was huge! Last night I took out the pack of tags and noticed how perfect this piece was when it was laid over Page 3. Happy accident! Into the album it went.

I added a little tab to help you grab the transparency (it’s a stamp sticker, folded in half). There is a lot of stitching on Page 3. Ooo! I love getting out my sewing machine for things like this. It makes such a difference. I also painted over the papers to tone them down a bit.

Two pages down! I’m ready to get smashing. And make some more pages… whee!

Oh Nicole, these are stunning! I understand exactly. I LOVE digi-scrapping for the ease. But for having something to hold in your hands there is nothing like doing it the old fashioned way!

Oh Nicole… this is fabulous. The stitching is such a perfect added touch. It’s impossible to resist getting out the machine and stitching on paper. Fantastic work so far! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can completely relate to your digi/paper dilemma. I have yet to print a single page for the same fear. I also have the double page issue (most pages I have digi scrapped are singles… in paper scrapping I always scrapped doubles). I too have recently found my way back to paper – in the form of art journaling. It has been a nice switch and really feeds my need to TOUCH the craft stuff!

    Can’t wait to see more!!
