the friday five.

Trying to get back into the habit of regular blogging. Oh, how I miss it…

Random bits from this week:

1. Most everything this week happened today. Today was the first day after my surgery (last Friday) that I finally felt normal. I kicked the pain killers on Wednesday and muddled through Thursday but today—today was a good day!

2.In keeping with my return to paper scrapbooking, I’ve been editing photos all day today. First, I dug out the EHD and all the CD backups from 2000 through 2007. It seems that some of 2004 and all of 2005/2006 were not on the EHD. So I first moved them off the discs and on to my hard drive. Then we then dug through some of the old files of photos, telling stories and watching videos for hours with all the kids all around (or practically on top of!) me. I found some snapshots to print that will get me started telling stories on paper again. I’m excited! On a somewhat related note, when did this girl stop being two years old (and what on earth am I going to do with her when she’s 16)?!

3. I discovered that Katie once had the very same hair cut that Penny has now and I watched it get longer and scragglier before Katie ended up with a bob in late 2007. Well, that answered my question! Penny most certainly WILL be getting a hair cut this weekend. I thought it was odd that I didn’t remember something like this. But then again, they are such different people—when I look at Penny, I don’t typically think of little Katie, although they do look so much alike!

4. The tree went up today! Just the tree and the lights. Ornaments and hot chocolate are to follow tomorrow. (By the way, you could not pay Penny to sit still tonight!)

5. Thanks to my archive work today, I discovered that Katie wore those pink candy cane jammies (that you see Penny wearing above) Christmas Day, 2005—back when Katie was an only child (with a brother on the way). Penny, on the other hand, is one of four. Wow. That seems fast for so much to change in our family. But, then again, it’s almost impossible to think back to only having one child! What on earth did I do all day with all that free time? Ha!
